For the first time in South India, a unique total knee replacement surgery was successful performed using I- Assist (i-Pad Navigation) at Kamineni Hospitals. The high-end computer based technology according to Dr Neelam V Ramana Reddy, had helped a 67-year-old Noorbanu Lallani, who was suffering from osteoarthritis and thigh deformity, to walk well. Speaking on this occasion, Dr Ramana Reddy said they decided to apply the computer aided advanced method I-Assist navigation as it has multiple advantages. This technology helps to reducing the complications and performs the surgery with greater accuracy. While there is no blood loss in this method, it also helps in accurate cutting of the bone and providing perfect alignment and placing of implants in preferred position, he said. Twelve days after the surgery was performed Noorabanu said that she was now able to walk better. She said, “At first I feared so much about this surgery. But after the operation I felt so comfortable. I am not having any kind of knee pain.’’ She said she is now able to bend the knee easily. Noorabanu had come from Nanded in Maharashtra to get the surgery done.
